Alabama National Teenager

Making YOUR Dreams Come True!

Q: What are the benefits of being in America's National Teenager?
A: Besides the possibility of receiving scholarships, prizes, and cash, you will build self -confidence, forge lasting friendships, and be involved in a fun and exciting production. If you win at the state level, you will be on your way to the national competition; one of the most exciting and fun filled weeks of your life and the chance to put some major cash into your college fund! (either $10,000 or $5,000 depending on your age division).

Q: If I have competed in the junior division, may I return and be in the senior division?
A: Yes, you may! Many girls have returned and enjoyed the second time even more.

Q: Is America's National Teenager a "beauty pageant?"
A:Definitely not ! Teenagers are scored, Academic Achievement 15%, School/Community Involvement 15% Interview 30%, Poise and Personality 15%, Personal Expression 15%, Public Speaking 10%.

Q: Will I have to buy a lot of expensive clothes? What do I wear?
A: Just Say No - to buying new expensive outfits! If you are selected as a finalist, you will receive information on what to wear and how to prepare for every aspect of the weekend program. We encourage our contestants to not buy expensive evening gowns. You may borrow or rent the dress you need for our program. We do sell an inexpensive outfit for the opening number, so that we can control the look of the production and so that each girl will be uniform in attire and be judged for who she is and not what she is wearing. Our judges are instructed not to judge girls on clothes, hairstyles, and makeup.

Q: Is there a swimsuit competition?
A: This is our 36th year and we have NEVER had a swimsuit competition.

Q: Do I have to be involved in presenting a talent or an essay?
A: No. These are optional and they are judged separately by a different panel of judges.

Q: Do I have to sell advertising to enter?
A: : No; this is also optional. Selling advertising, however, is an activity that many of the finalists enjoy because of the prizes and discounts on fees that can be earned. When you are selected into a state program, you then receive information that explains the price of the program booklet advertising and all of the prizes and awards that are available.

Q: If I do not present a talent or essay, will it affect my score with the judges?
A: Not in any way. Once again, the talent and essay portions of the program are judged as a separate competition, so they have no affect on the final score.

Q: What do my sponsors receive for sponsoring me?
A: They receive recognition in the state program booklet and their contribution will also be mentioned during the program, as you are introduced on stage.

Q: I have heard that some programs start with a dance number. What is this like and what if I can't dance? Again - what do we wear?
A: A choreographer will work with the girls on a production number that everyone will be able to do. Rest assured that it will be a "fun" number; that majors on movement and not intricate dance steps. The opening number outfit will be something simple, cute, and inexpensive. An outfit that you will want to keep and wear again.
